Film: The Mysterians (1957)
Alias: None
Type: Alien
Location: Civilized area
Height/Weight: 50 meters and 50000 metric tons.
Affiliation: Evil
Summary: Japan's always had a thing for robots, particularly the giant ones. Then again, they like giant monsters, so it makes some sense. Either way, one of the first robots they threw onto the big screen was as big as it was a little ridiculous. But not nearly as ridiculous as the aliens who built it.
History: The Mysterians have been facing some troubled times recently. They've had a nuclear war that destroyed their planet, Mysteriod, most of their race are mutated and hopeless, and they've been reduced to neighboring the Asteroid Belt as shells of their former glorious selves. But Earth has plenty of land and women for them to live and breed with, so there's that! Now if only they didn't send their war machine, Moguera, as a first impression. Then things probably would have gone smoother.
Notable Kills: Nothing special.
Final Fate: Moguera is brought down when the bridge he's walking on is detonated below his feet, causing him to fatally fall. The Mysterians send in a second one to tunnel underground, but it gets crushed by a collapsing cannon. In short, the Mysterians lose pretty badly in the end.
Powers/Abilities: Moguera is made of reinforced alien steel, shoots deadly heat rays, and can tunnel underground.
Weakness: Heavy objects and a lack of balance can do this robot in.
Scariness Factor: 3-Moguera's destructive power is not to be taken lightly, but damn if he's not silly looking! At best, he looks like a giant robotic penguin with cones for arms wearing a sweaty steel t-shirt. It doesn't help that both models are taken out rather easily.
Trivia: -Moguera's name comes from the Japanese term for "mole", "mogura". No guesses as to why.
-Moguera was originally going to be an on-rails mechanism with a miniature for advanced effects, but it all proved unwieldly, and they went with suitmation instead.
